In this article I want to talk about why Discord is a complete joke as a communication platform in 2025, and why you should think twice before trusting them with your data or money.
Recently I made a joke in a chat — I said I was 5 years old. Just a stupid joke, nothing serious.
Eight minutes later, my account was permanently suspended. Discord was planning to delete it after a month. All because of a simple fucking joke.
I'm an 18+ adult, and I had to send them my government-issued ID to prove it. It took them 2 whole days just to verify it. I had to make 3 separate support tickets!
And here's the best part — their support website got data breached literally the day before I sent my ID. Think about that for a second. You can't really trust Discord with sensitive data like this, especially when their security is this shit.
They claim they don't store the verification files. But do you really believe that?
I'm absolutely sure they store everything and sell all the data to government cyber forces and advertisers — just like Facebook does. There's no way a free platform stays profitable without monetizing your data in every way possible.
Your messages, your voice calls, your server activity — all of it is being collected and probably sold to the highest bidder.
Here's the real joke: someone can write in chat that they like "fucking small kids" and nothing will happen to them. But if you joke about your age? Instant permanent ban.
Their reports aren't even reviewed by humans — it's all automated AI moderation. And we all know how well AI handles context and jokes, right?
The system is completely backwards. Actual predators can roam free, but harmless jokes get you banned immediately.
When my account got banned, I had an active Nitro subscription on it. Zero refund offered. Nothing.
Of course I managed to recover my account eventually, but if I hadn't — that would just be money wasted with no refund at all.
They can ban you for literally anything, and it becomes YOUR problem to unban yourself through their support system. Not theirs. They don't give a shit.
Any other social media platform would treat a message like mine as an obvious joke. But Discord doesn't use human moderators, so context doesn't exist.
Discord has become too big and too automated. They've completely lost touch with their user base:
Discord used to be a platform built by gamers, for gamers. Now it's just another corporate data harvester that cares more about covering their ass legally than actually creating a good user experience.
They've built a system where:
And they expect us to just accept this because "what alternative do we have?" Well, maybe it's time we start looking for alternatives.
Discord is a joke. Their moderation is broken, their privacy practices are questionable at best, their customer support is abysmal, and they have zero accountability when they fuck up.
They'll happily take your money for Nitro, but the moment their broken AI decides you violated some rule, you're on your own trying to prove your innocence to a system that doesn't care.
Absolutely not. Unless you enjoy having your data harvested, your jokes misunderstood, and your money potentially stolen with no recourse.
Use it if you must, but never forget — Discord doesn't give a shit about you as a user. You're just data to be monetized and a potential liability to be banned.
